Interstate 64 to close in Downtown St. Louis Feb. 26 – March 1

Truck Drivers, including those hauling oversize loads in the St. Louis area or those crossing the Illinois/Missouri state line should make plans to avoid Interstate 64 the weekend of Feb. 26 – March 1. I-64 to close in Downtown St. Louis Feb. 26 - March 1 The disruption will enable crews to demolish the Ewing St. bridge above I-64 as part of an interchange rebuild project.

Time of Closure

Lane closures start at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26 Traffic will be prohibited between I-64/I-44. interchange and Grand Ave. (MM 37) All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.,  Monday, March 1.

Eastbound Drivers

Those heading east are advised to use I-270 and/or I-170 to access the I-270 river crossings or I-70’s Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge downtown.  Through traffic should not attempt to follow detour signs placed for passenger vehicles through city streets. Downtown St. Louis streets are narrow.

Westbound Drivers

Those heading west can divert to I-44 directly upon crossing the Poplar Street Bridge. Other options include the nearby I-70’s Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge and the I-270 river crossings. 

Potential for Rescheduling

Should winter temperatures dip to the extreme, the demolition and closure will be postponed.
