WCS Permits Contest Winner Announced

The winner of the WCS Permits & Pilot Cars “Who’s in the Spotlight” contest has been chosen.

WCS Permits Contest Winner Announced The winning load was a 90-foot long NASA exploration flight test capsule that was safely transported to the White House in 2018. WCS Permits provided the oversize/overweight permits and pilot cars for the load.

The spacecraft, The Orion, was on display as part of President Trump’s “Made in America Product Showcase.”

At 82,000 pounds, 15′-1″ high and 17′ wide, the load traveled from the Kennedy Space Center in Titusville, FL to the White House in Washington, D.C., safely making its was through the Sunshine state and across several others before finally unloading on the South Lawn of the White House.

Several days later, the load made its return trip to Florida.

WCS’ Pilot Car department conducted the route surveys prior to the oversize load permit submission and approval phase before the load hit the road.

According to an article published by The New York Post, The Orion, which is being developed by Lockheed Martin, was first tested in 2014.

It also said, Orion project manager Michael Haws and NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine were on hand for the event.

WCS Permits worked with the carrier to route and obtain all necessary state, city and county oversize load permits to allow for its transport.

Our internal WCS transportation agent and WCS customer both won a cool $100 gift card for the load submission, details and pictures.
