At 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, portions of the New York State Thruway will close to commercial truck traffic.

The closure is due to the winter storm that is expected to impact portions of Western New York.
Beginning at 4 p.m., the NYS Thruway will close between exit 46 Rochester and exit 61 PA border. In addition to the thruway closure, the following will also be closed to commercial truck traffic:
- Interstate 190 – Route 62 to I-90
- Interstate 200 – full length
- Interstate 990 – full length
- Route 33 – full length
- Route 219 – Route 39 o I-90
- Route 400 – full length
- Buffalo Skyway – route 5 – full length
- I-81 – Exit 33 to Canadian border – trucks use right lane only
The closure is in place to prevent possible tractor-trailer, including oversize load, accidents on the thruway during winter weather. In the past, such accidents have blocked roads and left people stranded for lengthy periods.
Governor Hochul has declared a State of Emergency ahead of the intense lake effect snow forecast for portions of upstate New York.
