Multiple State Travel Restrictions During Northeast Winter Storm

Multiple states have commercial vehicle, including oversize load, travel bans in place as blizzard conditions hit the Northeast. The most up-to-date restrictions by state with resources are listed below.

Connecticut

Due to the expected winter storm, there will be no permitted travel authorized on Monday, February 23.

Delaware

Delaware governor has issued a state of emergency effective 12 p.m. on Sunday, 2/22/26.

The following may be imposed.

Level 1: has been issued for drivers. Drivers are discouraged from operating a vehicle.

Level 2: travel on roads restricted to emergency workers, public utilities and healthcare providers.

Level 3: Driving ban with the exception of first responders, utility personnel, and snow removal.

Maryland

Massachusetts

NO TRAVEL for any trucks, tractors of any type due to blizzard on 2/23. until further notice- trucks delivering food, fuel and medical supplies are EXEMPT from restricitons

New Hampshire

No oversize load travel in several districts on 2/23. See graphic below.

New Jersey

NJDOT issued commercial vehicle travel restrictions on multiple Interstate highways that began Sunday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. Read more: https://bit.ly/46i8Jpj.

New York

Starting 2/22 at 4 p.m.: Tandem vehicles and Empty Trucks/Trailers will be banned on the Thruway (I-87) south of exit 17 (Newburgh — I-84). This includes portions of I-87 in Orange County, and all of I-87/I-287 in Rockland and Westchester Counties (including the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge). Tandem vehicles and Empty Trucks/Trailers will also be banned on the New England Thruway (I-95) from the New York City line to the Connecticut border.

Other Commercial Vehicles will be required to operate in right lane only for the I-84 corridor and all NYSTA/NYSDOT roadways south of I-84.

Pennsylvania

PennDOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike plan to implement vehicle restrictions on Interstates and the PA Turnpike which began at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 22.

Rhode Island

Due to the incoming snow storm, Governor McKee has declared a state of emergency and placed a ban on all commercial vehicle travel on all state roads starting at 5pm February 22nd until further notice.
