WCS Permits & Pilot Cars’ owners and employees are mourning the loss of Paul Van Gogh, a long-time employee, cherished friend and heart-led leader.
Paul, 97, passed peacefully in Simi Valley on March 20. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Avedisian and two granddaughters, Andrea and Alena.
Paul started as a permit runner and worked in government relations for WCS up until late 2023 when he completed his last job. Paul met WCS CEO, Wes Mollno, at a city hall meeting and the two hit it off. Mollno offered Paul a job with the company where he found his work home for the next 25 years.
At 97 years young, his 25-year career at WCS was preceded by 38 years at Southern Pacific Railroad.
“Paul had an amazing spirit and work ethic, and he wasn’t ready to exit the workforce,” said Mollno.
WCS staff fed off his energy and he was loved by everyone in the company and by every government agency he worked with on behalf of WCS.
When Paul wasn’t running permits and involved in government relations for the oversize load industry, he enjoyed many passions, including golf, horse racing, relaxing at the beach, playing craps and blackjack in Vegas, watching sports and traveling to Europe and other places.
Christmas was his favorite holiday, and the WCS team has fond memories with Paul at many annual Christmas parties.
His dedication, professionalism, and kind spirit will be deeply missed by everyone at WCS Permits & Pilot Cars.
