Keeping a 10-Ton Mobile Landmark Moving
When Anheuser-Busch unveiled the ComBar—a first-of-its-kind, 10-ton mobile bar engineered from a real combine harvester—it wasn’t just launching a marketing campaign. It was launching a highly visible nationwide tour that required careful transportation planning, regulatory compliance, and oversize permitting to ensure the massive attraction could safely travel from one event to the next.
To help make that happen, WCS Permits & Pilot Cars has provided and continues to provide the oversize permitting expertise needed to keep the ComBar moving across multiple states throughout its summer and fall tour.
The Challenge
Built from an authentic combine harvester and transformed into a fully functioning, 400+ square-foot mobile bar, the ComBar is unlike anything on America’s highways. Its unique size and configuration requires specialized oversize permits and route planning to legally transport the exhibit between appearances at major agricultural events, state fairs, grower celebrations, and community festivals across the United States.
With a tour schedule spanning several months and numerous destinations, every move requires careful coordination to ensure compliance with varying state regulations and oversize permit requirements.
WCS Permits & Pilot Cars’ Solution
WCS Permits & Pilot Cars has and continues to work closely with the transportation team to obtain the oversize permits necessary for the ComBar’s nationwide journey.
Our experienced permit specialists coordinated the required state permits, helping ensure the oversized exhibit remained compliant as it traveled from stop to stop. By leveraging decades of experience and long-standing relationships with permitting agencies across North America, WCS has continued to help keep the project moving on schedule while minimizing delays.
Whether supporting one move or an extended multi-state tour, WCS provides customers with a single point of contact for oversize permitting, route coordination, and regulatory compliance.
Supporting an American Story
The ComBar was created as part of Anheuser-Busch’s Choose Beer Grown Here initiative, celebrating the American farmers who supply the barley, rice, corn, and hops used in many of the company’s iconic beers.
Each year, Anheuser-Busch invests approximately $700 million sourcing ingredients from more than 700 American farmers, and the ComBar serves as a traveling tribute to those growers. Coinciding with America’s 250th birthday, the nationwide tour highlights the company’s long-standing commitment to U.S. agriculture while bringing the unique mobile exhibit directly to communities across the country.
Tour Highlights
The tour is far from over. WCS Permits & Pilot Cars is excited to continue supporting the ComBar with oversize load permitting as it travels to even more communities and events throughout the country.
