Carriers traveling through Montana should be aware of significant oversize load route restrictions and closures along US 212, from the Wyoming border near Alzada, MT, to Crow Agency, MT, due to a large organized horse ride event.
During the event, substantial traffic impacts are expected, and all motor carriers are encouraged to plan alternate routes in advance to avoid delays.
Oversize and Overweight Restrictions
To ensure the safety of participants and the traveling public, oversize and overweight movements on US 212 will not be permitted during the event. This restriction applies to both single-trip and term permits.
Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be deployed throughout the region, including:
- South Dakota
- Billings, MT
- Crow Agency, MT
- Miles City, MT
- Additional local areas along the route
The signs will direct commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) to use alternate routes and notify carriers that oversize and overweight loads are prohibited on US 212 during the event period.
Plan Ahead
Carriers with planned movements through southeastern Montana should review their routes immediately and coordinate alternate travel plans to minimize disruptions. Due to the size of the event and expected traffic volumes, delays and congestion should be anticipated throughout the corridor.
