Oversize Load Frost Laws by State

It’s that time of the year when frost laws take affect in some states throughout the nation and in some Canadian Provinces.

Some states have the information available via the travel information page on the state DOT website. Overesize Load Frost Laws by State

Currently, a few states have their frost law information published. WCS Permits will continue to monitor each state’s information as well as Canadian Provinces and will publish the updates or remove the laws as they expire per state and province.

Below are links to the states with current information published:

Iowa – Laws are in full effect, nothing over 80000 on routes listed as restricted

Idaho – Click here to enter route to see if road is clear

Michigan – Effective  3/18/15 on all state trunkline highways from the southern Michigan border north to and including US-2 from I-75 west to Wakefield in Gogebic County.

– On routes designated as “All Season Routes” (green or gold on the MDOT can you buy naltrexone over the counter Truck Operators Map) there will be no reduction in legal axle weight. 

– On routes designated as “Seasonal” (solid or dashed red on the MDOT Truck Operators Map) there will be a weight reduction of 25% for rigid pavements and 35% for flexible pavements. 

Minnesota – In full effect as of 3/13/15

Montana – Under traveler info go to alerts and restrictions to the left side under load/speed restrictions

North Dakota – Began for entire state on 3/11/15

South Dakota – Effective as of 1 p.m. on 3/13/15.

Pierre, SD – Effective at 1:00 PM CDT Friday, March 13, 2015 Spring
Load Limit Restrictions will be implemented on the following road
segments.

SD65 – US212 to SD20 – MRM 164.00 to 190.05 – 6 Tons/Axle

SD271 – Main St. Java to Campbell Co. Line – MRM 166.82 to 173.74 – 6 Tons/Axle

SD271 – SD10 to North Dakota Line – MRM 189.91 to 203.70 – 6 Tons/Axle

Wisconsin – In effect as of 3/13/15
