Martin Luther King Jr. Day Closures & Travel Restrictions

The state Department of Transportation (DOT) offices have released their Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday, Jan. 15, 2018) holiday oversize load travel restrictions and permit office closures. While most states’ information is out, some states will release new info, make changes and/or updates between now and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. 

WCS is committed to continually updating this closure list to keep all up-to-date on changes and updates, but each changes may be made by states without notice to WCS and it is urged that all state blanket holiday restrictions are checked, as well as annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Oversize Travel Restrictionspermits. 

Key Closures & Restrictions

While most state permit offices are closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Monday, Jan. 15 – there are some states with closures the Friday before, Jan. 12. 

Some states, such as Alabama and Arkansas, have no restrictions with a valid permit, although most states just list no restrictions. 

There are only a few states, including New York (specifically New York City) and Vermont with specific travel restrictions.
