A new team member means a new opportunity to showcase the people who make WCS Permits & Pilot Cars what we are.

This month, WCS welcomes Eric Gunn to the team as the company’s new business developer with over 15 years of industry experience.
Originally from the Vallejo area, Eric’s journey took a fortunate turn when he joined Caltrans in 1998. With his sights set on providing for his growing family, Eric was part of a devoted landscape crew for the department of transportation before he moved to a special crew that worked on fencing and guardrail projects throughout the region. Eric gained enough experience and caught the eye of a supervisor who promoted him. His background, work ethic and leadership skills landed him a new gig where he managed a crew of 10.
Eric did an outstanding job in that position for five years when an opening in the Caltrans permit department caught his attention. So, in 2008, he made the switch from the road to a desk and never looked back.
Behind the desk was difficult for Eric at first, but he quickly embraced his new title, making meaningful connections.
“When I first went into the office, some people wondered if I could do it as I didn’t have a lot of experience in permitting, but I am one of those guys who likes to take on a challenge. So, challenge accepted, and I made a good name for myself,” he said.
Eric didn’t just prove himself amongst his peers, but he caught the eye of many others in the industry, including WCS management who admired Eric’s work ethic, intelligence level and strong communication skills for years.
At the core of Eric’s commitment to his career was the goal of solving people’s problems by going the extra mile.
Within six months of starting the position, Eric was writing permits with ease and involved in other projects, including superloads/variance projects that required CHP escorts and engineers.
Understanding the importance of being thorough in this industry, Eric earned the opportunity to be involved in a couple of challenge loads he’ll never forget.
One, a 340-ton boulder transported from Riverside through various counites and cities to the Los Angeles Couty Museum of Art for an exhibit. The other, a massive space shuttle fuel tank that traveled from Marina del Rey to the California Science Center by NASA in Los Angeles. WCS Permits was pivotal in helping both loads safely make their destinations with logistics planning, permits, routing and traffic control.
As the new business developer at WCS, Eric is determined to continue to prove himself and provide value now and in the future. His new duties will also include customer relations, sales and quality control.
A self-proclaimed workaholic, Eric says when he can finally take time away, he enjoys hanging with his wife and four kids, including his two grandbabies.
Eric can be reached at [email protected] or at extension 116.
