A new Superload Analyst is joining WCS Permits & Pilot Cars.

Daniel Rich of Greensboro, North Carolina is a superload expert who is now part of WCS’ dedicated superload department. His 20-year career in the heavy haul industry includes permitting work for two specialized transport companies and knowledge ranging from planning and permitting to overseeing structural analysis and route surveying.
Daniel joined WCS this week and is ready to put his experience to work.
His journey in the trucking industry started over 20 years ago working in logistics for the U.S. Marine Corp. Shortly after, he landed a position as an operations manager for a Greensboro transportation company.
After acing the operations side, Daniel made the move to permitting and worked for a company specializing in super heavy hauling with a fleet of dual lanes and trailers up to 19-axles.
Daniel remembers interviewing for this position before he was a superload expert.
“I remember going to my interview and looking at all the equipment. I was like a kid with tonka trucks. Specialized equipment is so neat to see and something that a lot of people don’t even know anything about.,” he said.
He learned the ins and outs of permitting, specifically superloads, and helped plan and permit many loads, including a 23-foot-high, 24-foot-wide rotor head grossing 600,000 pounds. It took over a year of planning and was hauled on various trailers through Pennsylvania.
Intense moves like that are what keeps his interest in superload permitting and now he gets to handle the process for various companies.
“I enjoy working with the states and trying to make these moves happen. It’s exciting.”
He spent the last five years leading the in-house permit department for a different heavy haul company with a fleet including everything from three-axle flatbeds to 19-axle combos.
He is expected to do great things with his knowledge and experience at WCS.
“It’s a different ball game, but I’m excited about that. The permitting I know but now it’s being able to help others get loads moved, and I’m looking forward to it.”
Daniel and his wife have been married for 19 years and have two children, a 23-year-old son and a 16-year-old daughter.
