Missouri Waives Permit Fees for Hay Transport

Missouri Waives Permit Fees for Hay Transport

Missouri is temporarily giving free special overwidth permits for hay deliveries to farmers and ranchers after the governor declared rapidly escalating drought conditions.

Private and for-hire motor carriers can now benefit from the permit fee waiver through Dec. 1.

An executive order issued in September declared a drought alert after 85 of the 114 counties in the state were experiencing extreme weather conditions.

Agriculture is important for Missouri’s economy, providing jobs for 460,000 people. The state has around 88,000 farms, averaging 308 acres each. On September 29, the Missouri Department of Transportation announced the permit waiver as much of the state had its third-driest August since 1895.

MoDOT is waiving fees for hauling hay until Dec. 1. There’s no single-trip fee of $15 and no blanket permit fee of $96 during this time. However, hay loads must follow legal height, length, and weight limits.

Wide loads over 8 feet 6 inches require the special permit.

To get a permit, contact WCS Permits. WCS will obtain any hay hauler applications that need a fee waiver to avoid charges. WCS will also help plan any wide load route carefully for hay haulers, avoiding construction sites, bridges, and places with weight or height limits.
