Earlier this month, the State Motor Carrier Division of the Maryland Department of Transportation expanded general hours of movement from 12:01 a.m.
on Monday to noon on Saturday. These new hours apply to vehicles that do not exceed the following: 120,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, 12 feet wide, 75 feet long, and 14 feet 6 inches high, according to the Specialized Carriers and Rigging Association. Maryland has also provided for superloads to depart the Port of Baltimore on Monday morning (only) at 12:01 a.m. to begin movement out of the area after a weekend. Restrictions may still apply to vehicles on individual roadways or structures, so be sure to check the Maryland Hauling Permit Restrictions website before any move.
Maryland will also roll out a new hauling permit system, “Maryland One” for one-stop permit shopping on December 21. The program is said to consolidate hauling permit issuance transactions of both the state and Baltimore City into a single automated process. Features include: automated routing; auto issuance for both Baltimore City and Maryland permits up to 150,000 pounds; automated revision and extension capabilities; system compatibility with multiple web browsers; tablet and smart phone compatibility; ability to reset your own password; advanced transport vehicle configuration capability to accommodate mega load applications; and inclusion of county road data for continuity of route cross checking.
