Lake Tahoe Cave Rock Tunnel on Highway 50 Soon Restricted to Overdimensional Vehicles

The Lake Tahoe Cave Rock tunnel on US Highway 50 will be under construction starting on May 2, 2016, through October 15, 2016. This project is to construct an approximately 60 foot long tunnel extension on the north side of the existing Cave Rock Tunnel. The extension will act as a rock shelter, protecting the traveling public from hazardous rock fall that has been identified as a problem at this location.

The Nevada Department of Transportation is informing all Over Dimensional Annual Permit holders that this road will be restricted to ALL Over Dimensional vehicles during the project construction. The construction of the tunnel extension will require the closure of the westbound tunnel for the duration of the project. The traffic will be detoured into the eastbound tunnel and will be reduced to one lane in each direction and will NOT accommodate any Over Dimensional vehicles Due to this restriction, an alternative route must be used, please plan accordingly.
