Overweight Permit for Divisible Loads
Following the Presidential Declaration on January 9, 2023, the California Department of Transportation will be issuing single and repetitive trip permits for legal-sized vehicles carrying emergency relief materials to repair damage from winter storms, flooding, and mudslides.

The load must be exclusively comprised of emergency relief materials in response to the declared emergency and destined for an emergency repair project site.
The permit will be valid for 120 days from the Presidential emergency declaration and expire on May 9, 2023.
Please note that the permit only applies to legal-sized vehicles carrying emergency relief materials in response to the declared emergency and not for non-emergency work.
Moreover, the maximum allowable weight cannot exceed ten percent of the maximum gross vehicle weight and must not exceed ten percent of the maximum axle group weight, tire rating capacity, or manufacturer’s axle capacity.
To apply for the permit, you must provide evidence of emergency from a local agency, including the location of the emergency site, and a document showing that the work is related to this emergency to repair the damage from storms, flooding, or mudslides.
Single trip or repetitive permit application will be expedited to ensure faster processing.
