Labor Day Oversize Load Travel Restrictions

The Labor Day holiday is right around the corner, and Department of Transportatoin (DOT) permit offices have released information about oversize load travel restrictions for that weekend.

This holiday sees quite a few restrictions due to the fact that a lot more motorists will be on the road for the three-day weekend.

Every DOT state office will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4 in observance of the holiday, and all states with the exception of a handful will have oversize load travel restrictions in place.

Some states will have more restrictions on oversize loads, while other state’s restrictions are pretty simple.

There are states which oversize travel restrictions is contingent on overall dimensions. Arizona, for example, only has restrictions for oversize loads that exceed the following dimensions; 10′ wide, 14’6″ high, or 120′ long.

California’s oversize restrictions for the holiday are dependent on the necessity for a pilot car. If no pilot is necessary there are no restrictions, but if a pilot is necessary, there will be no travel allowed for oversize loads on Friday, Sept. 1 from 4 p.m. to midnight and no travel Saturday, Sept. 2, Sunday, Sept. 3 or Monday, Sept. 4 (Labor Day) from noon too midnight.
