The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZ DPS) will increase their law enforcement oversize load escort rates effective May 30, 2022.
The new rate for personnel will be $93.18 per hour/per trooper, and is a result of the increased costs of vehicles, products and labor.
According to the AZ DPS, the rate increase was established after an internal review of the law enforcement oversized load escort program, and will ensure the program does not result in a deficit to the state.
More Changes to Internal Policies
AZ DPS also announced changes to its internal policies which govern law enforcement oversize load escorts. The distance troopers could travel to provide law enforcement escorts for oversize loads was limited to 60-air-mile, but increased to 125-air-miles, effective late March 2022.
Furthermore, AZ DPS is looking to certify an additional sixty troopers as part of its strategic plan to continue its commercial vehicle safety alliance training and certification efforts.
