Winter Storm Inga Permit Delays, Travel Restrictions

Winter Storm Inga Permit Delays, Travel Restrictions

Winter Storm Inga has hit the Eastern U.S. and some states have oversize permit delays and oversize travel restrictions as icy roads make it hard for commercial vehicles to safely travel. Winter Storm Inga Permit Delays, Travel Restrictions

The state of Virginia issued a severe weather warning for today, through 6 p.m. EST. The state’s notice also warned of slippery and icy roads with some areas of the state surpassing 3 inches of snow.

North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper issued a state of emergency and an executive order and urged state residents to stay indoors. The executive order waived truck weight, size and hours of serve for the movement of supplies and equipment during the emergency.

South Carolina also has a winter weather advisory in effect, but no specific order was issued.

PERMIT OFFICE CLOSURES & DELAYS

Some state permit offices are also closed or running a skeleton crew. Louisiana – although significantly West to the storm – is still experiencing freezing roads due to the subfreezing temperatures and the state permit office is not issuing permits on Wednesday, Jan, 17.

Virginia is running a skeleton crew so delays in oversize load permit issuing is expected.

Both Arkansas and Texas are not issuing oversize load permits until the storm passes as there are quite a few routes commercial vehicles and motorists are unable to travel on. Arkansas is continuing to update weather conditions and routes here.

STAY UP-TO-DATE

Although the storm is expected to lighten by evening (on Wednesday, Jan. 17), there may be some refreezing roads Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Many states may continue to have delays in oversize load permit issuing as travel is still not safe on certain roads and highways.

WCS will continue to update this article with delays in the issuing of oversize load permits or any state permit office closures as a result of the storm.
