Hurricane Harvey Oversize Travel Restrictions

Texas Declares State of Emergency, Travel Warnings for 30 Counties

Texas Governor, Gregg Abbott has issued a state of emergency for 30 counties as Hurricane Harvey makes landfall. Hurricane Harvey Oversize Travel Restrictions

Several warnings and advisories were issued which will disrupt trucking operations, including oversize load travel. Meteorologists anticipate as much as 30 inches of rain in some areas. As of 10 a.m. CT today, the state was advising drivers to suspend all non-essential local travel.

Hurricane Harvey is a Category 2, but has the potential to reach Category 3 by the time it makes landfall.

With heavy winds and severe flooding and commercial vehicle or oversize load drivers should be aware. Structural damage from the hurricane can reach 25 miles from the eye of the storm.

Oversize and overweight restrictions are in place for all counties. The state is not issuing any permits at this time, until further notice. Click here for a map of all counties.

However, the state also issued a Disaster Declaration suspending oversize/overweight permit requirements. Size and weight restrictions and oversize/overweight permitting requirements of Transportation Code, Chapters 621 through 623, are temporarily suspended for vehicles and loads associated with activities needed to respond to the disaster. This applies to any disaster-declared counties and any Texas county through which transport is necessary to reach the disaster response area.

Meteorologists say the weekend will continue to see heavy rain, wind and flooding.
