Changes to Annual Permits in Texas

Effective Wednesday, December 20, The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) permit department is moving to a centralized mail process for annual permits issued through the Texas Permitting and Routing Optimization System (TxPROS). 

Any permits that must be mailed will be sent via U.S. Postal Service (USPS) First Class Mail, according to the Texas DMV. Changes to Annual Permits in Texas

ADDITIONAL CHANGES

Also effective on Wednesday, December 20 is changes to self-issue dimensions in TxPROS.

TxPROS users can now self-issue permits up to the following dimensions:

  • 20-feet wide
  • 18-feet, 11-inches high
  • 125-feet long
  • 199,999 pounds gross weight

Prior to December 20, permits could only be self-issued with the following dimensions:

  • 16-feet wide
  • 16-feet, 6-inches high
  • 110-feet long
  • 180,000 pounds gross weight
